UGANDA JUDICIARY | JUSTICE FOR ALL IN THE WAKE OF A PLANNED COUNTRYWIDE DISPERSAL OF MAGISTRATES

Judiciary to deploy Grade One Magistrates in 2000 Sub-counties









radiosapentia.com, September 01, 2022, 06:47AM, KAMPALA | The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao has described the Judiciary as the top government institution in terms of service delivery.

According to Mao, the Judiciary has changed its perception in the eyes of Ugandans gaining trust and support due to the ongoing institutional reforms.


Among other achievements for the judiciary that Mao highlighted is timeliness in project implementation, something which remains a challenge among many government agencies citing the ongoing construction of the Judiciary Headquarters which is almost 90% complete.


He added that the availability of judicial officers including Magistrates Grade ones in every district and the ongoing efforts to see that there are Court of appeals in every district will allow people to access justice as and when its required.


Mao was speaking at the launch of the 2nd Judiciary Annual Performance Report 2021/2022 that is being presented by Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo at the High Court in Kampala.

In his address, the Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi-Dollo noted that the judiciary is in a transformation mission to render effective and efficient services as an independent body ready to administer Justice to Ugandans.


To achieve this, he said they are looking at deploying Grade One Magistrate at each of the 2000 Sub-counties country wide to reduce on case backlog and improve on accessibility to Justice Centers.


The function was attended by among others the Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, the Director of Public Prosecutions- DPP Jane Frances Abodo and dignitaries from the Justice, Law and Order Sector.
