GOVERNMENT FACILITATES AFRIEXIMBANK, A CONTINENTAL STRUCTURED FINANCE GIANT

AFREXIMBANK TO BUILD REGIONAL OFFICES IN KAMPALA

kcca.go.ug, October 03, 2022 | The Government of Uganda has offered a piece of land to African-Export-Import Bank (Afrieximbank) for the construction of regional headquarters in Kampala.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija handed over the land along Yusuf Lule Rd (Formerly NSSF land) to the President and Chairman of Board of Directors of AFREXIM Bank , Dr Benedict Okey Oramah on Monday.

The government agreed to provide land to AFREXIM as a way of facilitating and expediting its establishment in Uganda. AFREXIM is expected to ease long term credit with low interest rates to Ugandans.

" Government of Uganda is pleased to host the Regional Branch office for the AFREXIM Bank and we look forward to a stronger partnership in development of the economic status of this great nation," Kasaija said.

Kasaija was flanked by the State Minister for Finance in charge of General Duties, Henry Musasizi and the Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi.

According to Prof. Oramah, AFREXIM Bank, Kampala will now host AFREXIM Bank East Africa regional office and Africa Trade Centre.

"Afrexim bank begins the process of establishing a deep taproot here in Kampala,” Oramah said

“From Kampala, AFREXIM Bank will branch out and reach 11 countries in East Africa the Horn of Africa. The iconic AFREXIM Africa Trade Centre (AATC) will offer architecturally inspiring nodes that will connect traders & investors across Africa,"said Prof Oramah.

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, Bank of Uganda Deputy Governor Michael Atingi-Ego, among other top government officials witnessed this landmark event.

Other facilities to be constructed on the land are, a world class hotel facility, conference and exhibition centre, trade information facility, technology incubation hub as well as regional, continental and global financial and development institutions.
